"You have to be flexible, changes will happen and that's okay" - Dan Petre

If you don't know who that guy is, he's the owner of Caledon Renovations.

Dan's talking about change orders.

Change orders can happen because:

  • Something was overlooked or missed in the original plans
  • An emergency occurred like a water or gas leak
  • There are health and safety or building code concerns
  • There was a more efficient option available
  • The homeowner had a change of heart
  • Someone came in with a new idea
  • And many other reasons!

Making changes part way through a renovation is very common, it just means the team has to re-evaluate and come up with a new plan.

I recently met Dan on a job site where he and the Caledon Reno crew have gutted an old home.

They're in the rebuilding phase, and a change order came up.

In this video, Dan tells me what the change order was, and what that means for the team...

So, why is this important?

Well, because it can cause a chain reaction.

Sometimes when you change one thing during a renovation, it affects something else, so it's important to have someone like Dan, who makes sure every detail is thought through before hammer hits nail.

In this video, Dan's talking about shortening the vanity length and eliminating a sink and vanity light.

In the next video, Dan tells me what kind of vanity they will install and why that matters when it comes to heating and cooling the bathroom!

(Shoutout to Schluter technology - they love keeping our feet warm at home!)
