Local Contractor With Good Reviews: 3 Ways To Find One

Next

Looking for a local contractor with good reviews?

Of course, you are. And you're probably super ready to get down to that kitchen or bathroom renovation because you are sick and tired of...

  1. Having zero counter space
  2. Struggling to create a welcoming environment to entertain
  3. Having a cluttered, unorganized and unusable space

I hear your frustration. Coming home should feel happy without headaches.

^^^ But that's only the first of your worries/problems. The next struggle is finding a contractor you would like to work with.

>> Question: When you typed in "Local Contractor With Good Reviews" were you thinking...

    • "Where do I find a good contractor?"
    • "Is there even a good contractor near where I live?"
    • "How do I know if he/she will do a good, quality job?"
    • "How will I know if I am over-paying or under-paying?"
    • "What happens if they skip town with my funds?"

    Those are REALLY good questions.

So I'm going to make this super easy for you to cut through all the red tape and get down to the renovation you deserve.

3 WAYS TO FIND A GOOD CONTRACTOR (You can count on)

    #1 Meet them.

I know, sounds simple. But as the old saying goes "Go with your gut". Meeting with a contractor will give you an idea of how they work, what they can do for you, what they expect from you and (should) give you a map of what a renovation will look like.

Watch Outs: Questionable costs without explanation, lack of timeline, lack of communication, unwillingness to share information

#2 Look Up Reviews/ Ask For References

Reading reviews online is one way to gain a little more perspective on a home builder or contractor. But you can also ask a contractor for references. Most company owners would be happy to provide you with a reference.

Watch Outs: Online reviews don't always paint a perfectly accurate picture. Whether positive or negative always remember, you don't know these people or the situation that took place. Look for company replies to these reviews. In addition, if a contractor flat-out ignores a request for references, you may want to find out why, or move on!

    #3 Ask Others

Call me old-fashioned, but if you're visiting someone and you love their space, ask them who did it! A recommendation from a friend is always the best. There's nothing like word-of-mouth. On the flip side, I always encourage anyone who has had a positive renovation experience to let others know. That can help out a company more than you know. It's all about community!

Watch Outs: When it comes to discussing cost, remember, that each home/room comes with its unique challenges and costs. No two renovations are alike. Consider when the homeowner renovated, inflation, material costs, size of the room, potential structural and engineering costs, quality of finishes and more.
